- The Lycos Search Engine, Carnegie-Mellon University Index with dynamic "on-the-fly" feature, superior with Boolean and limited search strings, allows negative keywords. Lycos is one of the oldest Web search sites, and one of the best Internet search engines in both quality of information and relevancy of hits. It is a comprehensive catalog of Internet with more than 50 million URLs. Lycos is a unique search site because it has large number of binary files in its database, including GIF, JPEG, wav, and MPEG files. It also indexes FTP archives and Gopher menus, giving its index greater depth than most other search engines.
Yahoo - The Yahoo Search Engine, searches by keyword and subject. Yahoo is a hierarchical subject-oriented guide for the World Wide Web and Internet. Yahoo lists sites and categorizes them into appropriate subject categories. Yahoo is arguably the pioneer Internet guide.
- The Alta Vista Search Engine, Digital's excellent key word search vehical for people, places or things on the net. Alta Vista provides simple and advanced searches on the largest Web index: 30 million pages found on 275,600 servers, and 4 million articles from 14,000 Usenet news groups. Because of the extensiveness of its database, Alta Vista excels at finding obsure bits of information virtually anywhere on the web.
- Excite Netsearch Engine, Excite tracks down information by searching for concepts, not just by keywords using a search technology called Intelligent Concept Extraction. It claims to search the full text of 50 million web pages, more than 1 million articles from 10,000 newsgroups, and a database of over 61,000 Web site reviews. Excite is among the best of the search engines at staying current.

- A2Z Home Page, awesome! well organized, easy to use, Lycos, keyword search system with pull-down point-and-click hyperlink menu of dozens of other search engines. A2Z is a subject directory of the world's favoriate Internet resources. It is built using the Lycos spider seeking out the most linked-to sites on the Net. Every site in the directory has description written about it by A2Z staff editors.
- Open Text IndexSearches text of URL sites on the internet - very good! Open Text claims to be a large database with 10 billion words and phrases indexed. It offers an excellent combination of power search options and ease of use. It is arguably the best-designed search site on the Web. Open Text offers two search options: Simple Search and Power Search.
- HotBot Search Engine, A joint venture between Inktomi and Hotwired, HotBot is a full-text search engine powered by the Inktomi parallel-processing search engine. HotBot claims to index over 54 million Web pages and promises to index 100% of the Web and Usenet news and mailing lists. HotBot offers the ability to search by date, resource (Java, Shockwave, VRML, etc.) and location. It supports Boolean AND/OR/NOT and phrase searching. In addition, it provides relevance feedback with each retrieval. Below is the simple search form for HotBot, you can go to the original site for additional search options.
- AccuFind's Javascript search engine, add-on for Netscape browser, searches books, infobases, wires, and internet. The AccuFind JavaScript search engine brings together the best of Net Locator, NlightN and many other resources to find whatever you want to know. AccuFind automatically searches InfoBases, News, Books and the Internet.
- The Electronic Library searches over 1,000 newspapers, mags and journals also images, books, art and literature
- Magellan Internet Search Engine, Magellan is a subject directory of reviewed and rated Internet sites, with a "green light" rating given to sites that are apparently free of adult conent. Sites are annotated.
- Colorado State University's SavvySearchSavvySearch is a meta-search tool designed to simultaneously send your query to multiple Internet search engines and return a complete set of results. You can request anywhere from 10 to 50 results from each engine that you query. SavvySearch also lets you restrict your searches to particular types of information, e.g., Web resources, People, and Academic. The search form for SavvySearch is available in several other languages
- Savvy Search's Beta Meta Search Engine
- IBM's InfoMarket Service lets you simultaneously search Web and commercial sources you choose, and receive a single, ranked result set. Web sources include Magallan Internet Directory, Open Text Index, Usenet News, and Yahoo. Commercial sources include 75 newswires, 300 newspapers, 819 newsletters, 6882 journals and 11 million companies. Information can be purchased on a per document basis using IBM's Cryptolope technology, a technology that enables users to buy and sell content securely over the Internet.

- Nerd World Media Internet Subject Index
- The WebCrawler Search Engine, easy to use, searches its own database updated several times a year, subject & keywords. Webcrawler builds on the philosophy: keep the database lean and display a clean list of results. To compile its database, WebCrawler surveys the entire Web, evaluating the popularity of each site and storing only the contents of pages that seem well traveled. It currently covers about 500,000 Web pages. WebCrawler returns the title of the Web page, but without a summary of description.
- UK Nexor's CUSI Meta-Engine. CUSI (Configurable Unified Search Engine) at Nexor provides you with a configurable search interface for many searchable WWW resources classified into several categories: WWW Indexes, Robot Generated Web Indexes; Other Internet Indexes; Software; People; Documents and Dictionaries.   • Internet Search Home Pages and Meta-Search Engines

    All4One - All-4-One lets you submit a search to Alta Vista, Lycos, Yahoo, Webcrawler at the same time. It presents the search results from these four search engines in four windows in the same page.
    Clnet's Massive Meta-Engine - Search.com provides the user with direct access to over 250 search engines. The engines are organized into 26 subject categories, allowing the user to narrow a search by selecting engines in a particular subject category. The best engines as determined by search.com are indicated by a "top pick" icon. Searches are performed per search engine at a time. Search.comalso offers a search tool by which you can search the titles of all the search engines provided. Recently, Search.com added an express search facility where you can pick a search tool from the list box of an express search, type in a quick query, and fire off the search.
    Allin1's Massive Meta-Engine - All-in-One-Search page places more than 200 search engines on one Web site. The engines are organized into 11 subject categories. Searches are performed per engine at a time.
    - Univ of Washington Comp Sci Dept - MetaCrawler Parallel Web Search Service. MetaCrawler is an multithreaded search site that can take your search terms and simultaneously feed them to nine sites: Open Text, Lycos, WebCrawler, InfoSeek, Excite, Inktomi, Alta Vista, Yahoo, and Galaxy. It organizes the results into a uniform format and displays them. With the MetaCrawler, you also have the option of sorting the hits, so that the sorted list that is displayed can be sorted by a number of different ways, such as locality, region, and organization. MetaCrawler can even eliminate invalid URLs.
    - Internet Sleuth has the largest, most comprehensive collection of search engines on the Net -- more than 1500 of them. Internet Sleuth covers many specialized databases. The engines are organized into 22 main subject categories and many subcategories. A parallel search engine has recently been installed which allow searching up to 10 databases simultaneously, both on the Home Page and within most of the categories. In addition, Internet Sleuth offers a search tool to allow you to search titles and descriptions of search engines included in the Sleuth.
    SuperSearch - SuperSearch provides a multi-search-engine-interface implemented in JavaScript. With SuperSearch, you can submit a search query to selected multiple search engines classified in the following categories: Crawlers, Indices, Usenet, People, Meta, Articles, Software, and Unsorted. Search result from each of the engines selected are presented in separate windows. SuperSearch requires Netscape 2.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0.
